Sprinter History

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter: Versatile & Regal

Introduced to Europe in 1995, the Sprinter Van is a light commercial vehicle built by Daimler AG in Germany. Available as a delivery van, minibus and chassis cab. Sprinter Vans replaced the famous Mercedes-Benz T1 van. The second generation Sprinter Van, featuring many improvments. It was launched in Europe in 2006 and was voted "Van of the Year" in 2007 by Professional Van and Light Truck Magazine. Sprinter Vans entered the U.S. market in 2001, originally branded as Freightliner. The remainder of North America welcomed Sprinter Vans under the Mercedes brand, until 2004, when Dodge branding was selected, effectively replacing the Dodge Ram Van. Sprinter Vans delivered to North America arrived in Huntersville, North Carolina, as CKD (Complete Knock Down) kits. There, the Sprinter Van was assembled into the finished product. In 2004, Chrysler Commercial Vehicle Division assumed responsibility for sales, service and Sprinter Van components, parts and subsequently, these operations moved to Auburn Hills, Michigan.
